Visit Channel →I'm an audio mixing engineer based out of Nashville, TN — originally from Perth, Australia, by way of Calcutta, India, where my family lived as missionaries when I was young. Music found me early: classical piano as a kid, guitar and keyboards in bands as a teenager, and by eleventh grade I was apprenticing as a piano tuner in a music store that happened to be on the front edge of the MIDI revolution. That store became my education in ways no school could replicate.
Through the 80s and 90s I built and ran The Upper Room Recording Studio in Perth, tracking bands on early digital tape machines while simultaneously selling and specialising in the first generation of DAW technology — Pro 24 on a Commodore 64, Notator on Atari, then Logic, Cubase, Studio Vision, and eventually Pro Tools. I was also running a Christian music concert venue, giving a platform to the emerging local scene and promoting international tours that brought out Amy Grant, Petra, WhiteHeart, Carman and others. The national promoter I worked alongside for those tours was David Smallbone — whose family later relocated to America, where his daughter Rebekah signed as Rebecca St. James, and his sons Joel and Luke became for KING & COUNTRY.
In 2001 I partnered with David to co-found Elevate Music, serving as both A&R and in-house producer for the label. Our first acts included Fusebox, RiverTribe and Charmaine. A Fusebox single I mixed hit #1 on CHR radio charts — one of the first Christian radio records ever mixed entirely in the box. By 2003 the label had wound down and mixing had become my full-time calling.
Two decades on, my work spans CCM, country, mainstream, and a specialisation in live records — worship albums, concert films, and artist live releases where the challenge is making something extraordinary without the safety net of overdubs. My philosophy hasn't changed: the mix should serve the song, not the other way around. In 2014 that philosophy earned a Grammy for for KING & COUNTRY's Run Wild. Live Free. Love Strong. Notable projects include Matt Redman's 10,000 Reasons, Crowder's Milk & Honey, Casting Crowns' Only Jesus, We The Kingdom's Live at Ocean Way Nashville, and for KING & COUNTRY's Burn the Ships — along with film soundtracks including Priceless and A Drummer Boy's Christmas. Along the way I've had the privilege of working with producers including Nathan Nockels, Tedd T, Matt Bronleewe, Brown Bannister, Jeff Pardo, David Garcia, Seth Mosley, Chris Stevens, and Mark Miller of Sawyer Brown — who produced many of the Casting Crowns records I mixed, including several that hit #1. Labels include Provident, EMI CMG, Capitol CMG, Word Records, Curb, Sparrow, Integrity, Gotee, Hillsong Music, Bethel Music, Jesus Culture, and Passion. Currently developing mix tools and plug-ins specifically for live album workflows.
